An organization can buy faster technology and still take just as long to act.
Adoption often fails because the surrounding processes remain unchanged. Predicting an equipment failure achieves little if maintenance still follows the calendar.
The same question belongs in every AI initiative:
- Who can act on the new insight?
- Which handoffs or approvals need to change?
- What do people need to learn—and stop doing?
- Who remains accountable when the system gets it wrong?
These are organizational design decisions. They belong alongside the technology investment, with business leaders taking responsibility for both.
AI readiness includes being ready to change how work gets done.

88% of companies use AI. Only 6% derive real value from it.
🤔
McKinsey has just published an AI Transformation Manifesto – 12 themes that distinguish successful AI transformations from unsuccessful ones.
My personal reading: It’s not about technology. It’s about people, structures, and culture.
Three themes particularly resonate with me:
Theme 4: Senior leaders must personally drive AI transformation—not delegate it.
Not a single success story without leaders deeply involved.
Theme 6: Speed is the defining organizational advantage.
The winner isn’t the organization with the best technology—it’s the one that learns, decides, and acts faster.
Theme 10: No trust. No right to deploy AI.
Finally: McKinsey recognizes trust as a criterion in its own right—not a footnote under “Responsible AI.”
AI transformation is organizational development. Full stop.
It requires psychological safety so people can engage openly with change.
It requires genuine collaboration—not silos hoarding AI projects.
It requires justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI): Who benefits? Who gets left behind?
And it requires sustainability:
Which decision-making patterns and systems are we regenerating—and which are we merely reinforcing?
The real question isn’t: “Are we using AI?”
It’s: “Are we building organizations capable of using AI?”
